Yesterday I got a text from a friend. He said,
By shifting my classes around, I’m going to graduate a semester early and go explore the western US and Asia. I never thought about it until I heard your plans, so thanks for the inspiration.
This text came at the most wonderful time. I have schedule out a light version of my itinerary for the next 4 months, and done some basic budgeting, enough to know that I will survive. This also comes at the time when literally any time I tell someone new (normally an “adult”) about my plans they treat me like an idiot. “That’s a long time.” “Aren’t you scared?” “You’re going by yourself?” “How are you going to do it?” It really gets quite old, being doubted so much.
It’s happening. I am going to be fine. I’ve got a big God on my side. Of course I’m scared, but I’m also confident. The point of this trip is to learn about myself, and learn about other cultures along the way. When things go wrong, I have to rely on myself to fix them. I need to go; let me grow.
Regardless, this text made me so happy. While I do have some doubters, I also have quite a few people that are excited to stalk this blog, and my instagram, and root me on. The song, “I Lived” by One Republic seems to be my anthem this year, as it is my Dance Marathon song, and seems to apply this this journey as well. The chorus is:
I owned every second
That this world could give
I saw so many places
The things that I did
Yeah, with every broken bone
I swear I lived
I’m going to see so many places and do some awesome things. So I appreciate the texts of encouragement, or acknowledgment. Thank you Nate.
