Secrets out- I went back to Budapest. It seems I needed a little vacation from my vacation, and Budapest just happened to be the perfect place to do so. Also it doesn’t hurt that an attractive Hungarian lives there who I quite adore. Haha. Anyways, I got to explore some things I didn’t do the first go, and drink more palinkak and homemade wine while staring at (still) the most gorgeous skyline imaginable. I’d say it was a good move.
Szili and I went to the zoo- one of my favorite places ever because I actually am an 8 year old living in a 21 year old’s body. Giraffe’s are my jam, and so are koalas. We walked through what Szili described as a “poison house” which sounds funny when translated. I was thinking- oh so this is where I go to die, well it’s been a nice run. In fact, it’s where they house all the things that terrify me, like snakes. So naturally we took our sweet time in there… sigh. We ended up going with not enough time to see all the animals we wanted to (we missed out on a sloth- I know Leah, I was heartbroken too) but still had fun.
I decided to bite the bullet and go to the thermal spas… which i hadn’t planned on. They were so relaxing and wonderful. I had a different experience though, because I went by myself, and I also don’t understand the concept of “relaxing.” I stayed for about 4 hours before I drove myself nuts and went to find tea.
The spas are gorgeous. I went to the Gellert Thermal Bath (which is the only one I knew where it was… psh I’m basically a local.) and felt like a movie star. I opted to pay for a massage, and the woman was very… efficient. She was rubbing everything so quickly I thought the friction might start a fire. It could be that my back is full of knots from, I don’t know, backpacking, but she really worked my back nice and long. I ended up with bruises and feeling like I lost a fight. But all is well that ends well.
The New York Cafe! The most expensive hot chocolate or smoothie you will ever buy! But it’s beautiful, so it’s worth it? Maybe? I treated Szili to a nice “tea time” at the New York Cafe, one of Budapest’s most famous spots. It’s a complete tourist thing, but I see why. It’s gorgeous in there. Szili wanted me to talk in a British accent to the waitstaff because he got a kick out of it. Cheers.
Yes, I went back to Budapest and it was so worth it. 🙂
