My Gypsy Love, Let’s Run Away to (Prague)!

PRAGUE! I’m falling slightly behind on my blogging, so I’m going to try to sum up an amazing weeking with my friend Will and his flatmate Sue whilst in Prague. It was a blast. First night Will and Sue took me to a gig in an old barn that was way cool. I’ve recently been introduced to Balkon music and it’s awesome. We saw Circus Problem, which they are groupies for haha. Here is a clip I watched about 4 seconds of on YouTube, but it’s them and I saw them live and they rule. https://youtu.be/djDw9UZo0p8 The whole night I just shouted “YO YO YO YO!!” (which means Yes) and “BALKON!” (which means Balkon). It was a really great time haha. DSCN3059 These are dumplings, a thing that the Czech Replubic is known for. We needed some… sustanence the next day and these provided. Deliciously. DSCN3022 Hey look! It’s me doing basic tourist things! This is the Astronomical Clock- rated the #1 most overrated tourusist attraction in Europe. For that reason, I didn’t bother sticking around to the top of the hour to watch it, and Will was mortified. Sorry man, I got beer to drink and people to see. (Czech beer costs the equivalent of about $1… for a half litre.) DSCN3035 This is Will! He is one of my close friends from camp! YAY CAMP FRIENDS! We are standing on the Charles Bridge- packed with tourists. You can tell Will is super excited because he has his awkward smile on. No. Touching. Haha. The Charles Bridge is rather beautiful, but I’m getting really “done” with crowds so I saw it and was happy to keep on walking. DSCN3050 THE John Lennon Peace Wall. I forgot my spray paint, but was happy to look at all the loving graffiti. (If you haven’t noticed by now, I really like graffiti. See a few of my older posts! Like Ljubljana and Newcastle!) DSCN3061DSCN3103 Prague is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. I know I say that about pretty much every city, but this one I mean it. All of the architecture is beautiful. I mean all of it. The red roofs are a nice touch, and in the main square, all of the buildings are a different pastel color with cool designs on them. I’m not feeling very much flowering language (having to use simple words in Europe is draining my English vocabulary…) but it’s purty. DSCN3125 This is Sue and Will with their “candy floss” (psh British people…) at the “fun fair” (aka carnival). We had an awesome time riding rides and eating junk food. We walked so much that day. But we also enjoyed nature by walking through parks and stuff, so that was cool. Will and Sue are great. I was SO HAPPY to stay with them and they cooked for me and put up with me blowing my nose obnoxiously a bunch (getting sick… yay). I am so blessed to have made a new friend and reconnected with an old one. Now for a short break to talk about the Jewish Quarter: Prague has one. It’s cool. JK- I actually went there and quite enjoyed myself. I toured around some synagogues and saw the old Jewish cemetary. In one of the synagogues they have covered the walls with Jews who were sent to conentration camps during the Holocaust. The names in black are people who survived and names in red are those who perished. It was only the beginning (as I went to Auschwitz in Krakow- Sue thought I should start preparing). DSCN3139 The coolest part for me was the Jewish cemetary. I overheard a tour guide say that they kept running out of space, so they would just add layers of soil. The tombstones are every which way and it’s all wonky. I thought that was wild. Thanks for sticking with me through to the end! Why is my post titled thus? Well my first night a band played “Oh My Gypsy Love, let’s run away to France!” I misheard and thought they were saying Prague. Then I liked my version better and still do. I would much rather run away to Prague. image Look family! I made friends! image They knew the best spot to watch the sunset over the city: image And with that, I ended my stay in Prague- with the sky exploding into a palette of a million flames.
