Originally, I had planned on spending some time in Stockholm. However, since I am (exciting about) going to precamp for the summer camp I lovingly work for, I have to cut my trip short. Stockholm was one of the destinations that got the axe. However, Sweden lies just a 30 minute train ride from Copenhagen, so my dreams could still come true. I took about 5 hours to in Malmo, Sweden.
While it decided to rain that day, Sweden is still a lovely place. The people are pretty friendly, and all of the buildings are just darling.
I spent some time at the Swedish Form and Design Center, where I was inspired by funky designs for furniture, houses, and even a trendy baseball hat made out of recycled materials. The Swedes have some really cool design ideas, that is for certain.
My favorite part of the day was lunch. I ate seemingly cheaply too, for Scandanavia at least. I stopped at the Graffiti Cafe and had a Swedish baked potato. This is no ordinary potato. Of course there is the starchy goodness, but it is piled up with chicken salad (I got the sweet chili chicken, there were other options as well), lettuce, cucumber, and tomato. So you get a potato, some protein, and a salad, all in one meal. I would never have thought to combine the flavors, but it works and it is quite delectable.
One of the attractions of Malmo (according to Pinterest- my main travel guide) is this windmill. I found it completely by accident when I was strolling through a park on my way to see the twisty turning building. Double score- they had a toilet.
Also- here in Scandanavia, people actually sound like this: https://youtu.be/RhRkAzaDuyg
They seem to swallow their words, making it completely confusing. But I have quite enjoyed my time here.
SKOL! (that’s cheers in Danish… I wasn’t in Sweden long enough to learn it in Swedish…)
