Leishear in Lima, Peru

Hi friends!

To round out my trip to Peru, I visited my dear friend Katie in Lima. She was my counseling counterpart at EAB last year, and one of the reasons I moved to Brasilia. And then… she abandoned me and took a job in Lima, Peru. However, I’m learning one of the perks of the international education world is that while people may leave you behind, you get to visit them in cool places when they move. So, that’s what I did!

Katie has an incredible apartment in Miraflores- look at that view!

I spent 2 days in Lima, mostly just hanging out but I did scope out some parts of the city.

Katie has an apartment in Miraflores, which might be the prettiest part of the city. She has an ocean view, and all along Miraflores there is a park/ walking path that goes all along the city. It was overcast and cloudy when I was walking, but that did nothing to diminish the view.

Barranco is the artist/ “bohemian” part of the city, and as a street art lover, naturally I had to go.

*Dreamy sigh*- I do love murals and street art, and South America has plenty to admire. On my second day, I met up with Connie and Tori for a city tour, and we ended up getting lunch at the little market in Barranco. It has a bunch of artist booths as well as different food stalls. We came during the day, but they have a stage set up, so it’s probably popping at night.

I met up with Katie’s husband, Brian, for lunch and we had ceviche and then fresh fish for lunch. Ceviche is absolutely delicious- and the sauce they use is called “leche de tigre” which translates to Tiger’s Milk.

I met up with Connie and Tori for a free walking tour in the historic and tourist area of Lima. I love getting to learn a little about history while looking at fun architecture, and it was a bonus that I was able to do so with my friends from EAB! It was, extremely hot, this day and I kept seeking the shade so admittedly, I didn’t hear a lot of the historical facts. But look at those buildings!

After a lot of hiking in Cusco, I was happy with some down town to connect with Katie and hear how her life has been. She even threw a little party before I left. Lima is definitely a place I want to go back to, not just for Katie, although that’s a nice perk. And, there is a direct flight from Brasilia!

Enjoying a Pisco Sour- naturally. Also, peep the new alpaca sweater.

Katie was a great host, and I am so lucky to have been able to visit her. She is my mentor in international school counseling, and taught me a lot not just in regular knowledge needed to move into college counseling, but also how to impart that knowledge. The kids miss her, I miss her, but I am happy to see her doing so well in Lima!

Thanks for tuning in!

Site news- I just upgraded my site to a paid subscription! I was running out of storage space for photos, and I think that’s probably the best part of this blog. Now I have access to a couple other things, like this map feature- although it’s a bit glitchy, so I’ll be playing around with things.
