Bratislava, Slovakia is the capital… and yet it is still a relatively small city. I like these small city/towns. If I can walk everywhere, I’m happy.
If you read my last post about Vienna, then you will know I met two fellow Hoosiers whilst standing outside the St. Stephansdom cathedral. We met up in Bratislava the next day and spent the whole day walking around and exploring Old Town together. It was awesome. These are actually my people. Shout out to Stuart and LaurieAnn- you made Bratislava fun.
We started with some walks around Old Town (since I don’t really know much about the city, it’s full of cool sculptures and pretty architecture). I’ll just let the pictures explain.
We found a “Narnia pub” right next to the main drag. When you walk through the doors, there are coats and hangars on the ceiling, like you are walking through a wardrobe. They’ve got a big mural of Aslan on the wall too… oh and live crocodile. It was neat.
Then we went up to the top of one of Bratislava’s proudest things- the UFO bridge. It actually looks like a UFO. And if you know me, you know how much I love aliens. It was pretty cheap to go up (everything in Bratislava is) and for students we got a good price too.
Also, LaurieAnn is really afraid of heights, but by the end of our stint on the platform, in the wind and all, she was confident. Way to go girl. I’m proud of you.
I dig heights.
MAKIN FRIENDS!!!
We then had a traditional Slovakian lunch… I don’t know what it’s called (typical, I know) but it was gnocchi, sheep cheese, and bacon. And delicious. I’ve also tried some Slovakian soda while I’m here. One of them was good, one of them not so much. Hey, your tastebuds have to expand somehow.
After some souvenir shopping and I found a thrift store, we turned my Pinterest dreams into a reality. I can’t tell you how cool it is to see things that I have only seen on Pinterest. I could definitely get used to this.
“Man at Work.” If you touch his head it’s good luck. If you touch his nose, you’ll get pregnant. I stayed as far away from his nose as I could, but gave his head a nice rub.
And that was my time in Bratislava…
Oh, you may be wondering about the title. How could I forget? I JUMPED OFF A BRIDGE!!! AND LIVED!!!
This is right afterwards. It was really funny, so I just walked up, it was only 10 euro, and they strapped me in. Then they led me towards a ladder and was like, okay, now you jump. Thankfully one of the workers (Anna), was like, you got this girl and gave me a thumbs up. I said a few quick prayers and let my faith take wings. IT WAS AWESOME!!! I flew, then I swang under the bridge. They pull you up, and you’re shaking with adrenaline. And it’s just an awesome experience. I’m so glad I did it. (Sorry I didn’t tell you until afterwards Mom… thought you’d be less worried 🙂 ).
Here’s a video… you may be able to hear me scream.
