Unrestricted Access at Plitvice Lakes

image

Croatia has gorgeous scenery, and one amazing example of this is Plitvice Lakes, a national forrest about 2 hours away from Zagreb. I was so excited to spend the day there, get some awesome pictures, be at one with nature. I did all of these things, oh except the second. I forgot my memory card for my camera in my tablet from the night before. Major face palm. I did still have a great time. I met these two aweasome Brazilians in hostel the night before, Lisa and Daniel, and we all hung out all day at the lakes. image

These are my compadres in front of “Big Waterfall.” As you might guess, it was the largest in the park.

(I did take pictures on my phone, which is where I’m writing this post- hence I’m sure it will be brief)

OMG so pretty. The photos do not show just how turquoise the water is.

Killin it.

However, we took an extra route that apparently wasn’t open. While we were enjoying the entirety of the upper lakes, there was no one around us. By the time we got to the place where the tram would have taken us back, in plenty of time to catch the bus home, we found out it wasn’t running. At this point, we had to book it back to the entrance on foot on winding roads. We got to the second entrance, and by the grace of God, there was a tram we could get from that point. They made it back to their bus with 3 minutes to spare. We were out of breathe, but we got some of the best views of the park. Psh. What does closed for winter even mean?
