Hannover Heels

I notice that whenever something goes “wrong” it has a funny way of being “right” in the end. God is great like that. If you were to be one of the chosen few to have seen my itinerary written out in all its glory, you’d a) have no idea where in the world I actually am because it’s changed so often and b) would have no idea how I ended up in Hannover, Germany.

Well here’s how folks- because apparently Europeans celebrate May Day- ALL of the hostels in northern Germany were booked. When I say all, I mean, I checked in even little towns. They were having a grand ol party. I even looked on different booking sights, just to make sure hostel world wasn’t lying to me. And thus, I found Hannover, Germany. It’s a quintessential German town. The hostel I ended up staying at backed up onto what one reviewer called a “nature reserve.” I took a walk at dusk on my first night there. It was a nice little path in the countryside. I guess it was nature.

God is so good. As I breathed in the fresh country air, tears crept into my eyes as I realized the extremity of how blessed I am. While I’ve known this on the surface all along, something hit me in that twilight, and I felt the enormity of God’s grace. If you’ve ever felt that, it’s quite a feeling of being completely and totally taken care of. And I am, especially on this trip. I’ve hit a few road bumps, but they smooth out, and even in this booking mistake on my part, God turned it around and took care of me.

Of such things I find it hard not to be thankful.

While in Hannover, I also saw the exsquisite Rauthaus (town hall) and their cute old town. To my mother’s delight, I even found a flea market with awesome German antiques. I enjoyed my time in the town center, but I mainly used it as a reading holiday. Oops. The reading nerd in me needed to be satisfied.

Needless to say- I’m Hannover heels… get it?

  1. Would be nice if you could get up to Wittmund (northern Germany) where your great grandfather was born and raised or The Island of Spiekeroog (Fresian Islands) off the northern coast where my cousins and their families live. Grandma Youare seeing wonderful places. God is watching over you!
