Coroico, Bolivia

Reunited with the Beatty/Blumhorst family, I was ready to put the Death Road behind me and buckle in for the next 2 weeks exploring Bolivia together! Nathan planned out a fantastic vacation for everyone, and the first stop outside of La Paz was a small town with lots of nature called Coroico.

We stayed at a beautiful Ecolodge called Hostel Sol y Luna, and we had 4 different cabins. The 5 girls stayed in the biggest one, and we were deemed the hang out spot.

We walked around the property a little bit after lunch and I really enjoyed breathing some fresh air. La Paz smells like diesel, and I found myself with a headache from altitude and fumes quite a bit. Coroico, especially this ecolodge, smelled beautiful.

We went on a little nature excursion to watch the sunset, and it was beautiful. I love a good sunset.

Thanks for spaghetti Cathy, Elizabeth, and Aunt Nellie!

Next up was family dinner. I was treated to the dining delicacy of being fed by my family. We had a spaghetti dinner, and played UNO afterwards. After the parents left, us cousins drank wine and chatted and swapped memories. It was a truly beautiful time to just sit and “be” with each other.

*insert doom music* and that would be the last I would enjoy of Coroico. The next morning I woke up, had breakfast, and immediately projectile vomited it out. I’m not even kidding, it was like something out of a movie or a cartoon. Whether it was my roadside hot chocolate, or the accidental brushing of my teeth with water from the faucet rather than a bottle, I was down for the count. Add the vomit to the diarrhea I had been experiencing that morning, and it was decided that cousin Michaella would be staying in.

I missed out on a visit to a coffee farm. But I got to sleep for about 20 hours. So who is the real loser here?

… oh yeah. It’s me. BUT- of all the days of our trip to be violently ill, I picked probably the best day. Many of my cousins would be sick at various points during the trip, and I have to brag that mine was the best timed.

I woke up feeling like a new person… the next day. I joined my cousins to watch the sunrise over the mountains. It was an easy morning, and there is nothing like watching God’s majesty bloom over the horizon. 10/10 recommend.

While this post is rather short, I didn’t want to neglect Coroico on my recollection of Bolivia, but I honestly don’t have a whole lot to add. My family loved the coffee farm. I loved being able to sleep for an entire day. Win win. The Ecolodge set up was beautiful for our family, and it worked well to feed the 12 person army, and it was beautiful.

See you for the next stop on the Bolivia trip!
