There comes a point when I haven’t blogged for a while and think to myself, man I really need to blog because I’ve visited new places. And then I don’t because one thing or another comes up, and then I start to feel bad about all of the things I have been ignoring. Blogging is one of them. I’m trying to not be hard on myself while also really enjoying the fact that I am trying to keep this blog going. It’s a really fun resource to look back on and reminisce about the amazing world that we live in. So, let me tell you about my September holiday.
EAB gave us a 4 day holiday in September, and I took a trip with my friends Alex and Maria to Maragogi, Brazil. Maragogi is known as the Carribean of Brazil. The water is warm and bright blue, and it’s a beautiful place to spend time.
To get there, we flew into Recife and hired a driver to take us to Maragogi. We stayed in a decent hotel right on the water. To return we had a driver take us back to the airport. It ended up being a different driver who could take us earlier, which turned out better because then we could eat dinner at the airport. Brazil is definitely a country where “knowing a guy” or even “meeting a guy while on holiday” is very helpful. Knowing the language is a big bonus.

And a beach vacation it was! We got mostly lucky with the weather. As we approach rainy season, it is constantly a gamble. It did rain on us while we were there, but the rain didn’t usually last the entire time. The first day we took a buggy ride and got pelted by the rain. It’s all part of the adventure baby.

Buggy rides are awesome and I highly recommend them. I will also say that this would never function in the United States. You essentially sit on a seat on the back of a dune buggy, with no seat belt, and the driver goes fast. It drives along actual roads as well as sand and bumps. I loved it. In the states you would have to sign waivers and they would make you wear a helmet and a seat belt. Safety is cool I suppose, but this was really fun.
This was the type of trip where there isn’t really much to blog about. We all got along for the most part, we laid on the beach, we took buggy rides, and we ate some good food. Unfortunately, I’m still nursing a foot injury that I blame on the Ironman, so I couldn’t take long walks on the beach like Maria and Alex could. I ended up staying behind and eating lots of coconuts instead.
Coconuts are a magical food because you get to drink the water, then you have the people cut it open and you get to eat the fruit inside. It’s one of my favorite things about the beach.

The last day of our trip we went snorkeling and on a “passeio” on a boat. It was… raining. The whole time. But, as we do, we made the best of it. I’m glad I had my nerdy sunshirt so I stayed a little bit warmer than the other.

The “Caminho de Moises” is very famous in this area as a sandbar that you can walk all the way into the ocean. We missed this however because of the tides. So instead we took the cheesy picture in hip high water.
All in all it was a great and much needed relaxing vacation with two good friends! This was the first time I was able to visit the famous Brazilian beaches of the northeast.

Tchau for now!
